Art 440 Projects

Suburb Assignment

Assignment: Create a series of five images conveying the notion of 'suburb.' Interpretations may be literal i.e. documenting the built environment or environmental impacts in the landscape or creating a series of environmental portraits. More conceptual interpretations welcome as long as they convey the subject at hand. Staging an intervention which is then recorded photographically is also acceptable. Images should be highly creative, well-composed, technically proficient and most importantly conceptually innovative and exciting to look at. All images must relate as a series. You may photograph your subject in color or BW but not a combination of the two.

Photographers lectured on for this assignment include: Bill Owens, Joel Sternfeld, Larry Sultan, Todd Hido and Steven B. Smith.

*Digital images for Powerpoint presentations must be properly downsized for screen viewing at 72 dpi. A good target is 800 x 600 pixels. Any PP turned in with images at higher resolutions will be MARKED DOWN 1/2 grade!
