Part
1: Conceptualize a black and white, five image narrative sequence similar to
the work of Duane
Michals. Your narrative may involve people or may not, can be serious
or humorous in subject. Your narrative sequence will convey a visual story without words. Organize models, location, props, etc.
Develop two completely different ideas in a series of sketches.
With notes, describe the basic action and concept of the narrative and
any resources you will use (models, props, location). Instructor will discuss the composition sketches with each student individually.
Part
2: Shoot the narrative sequence. All images
will be composed in camera (cropping not allowed in post production).
Use depth-of-field and selective focus creatively. Light your
subject with studio and/or available light. Images should be presented in one orientation (do not mix vertical w/ horizontal images). Select the five best images and convert to grayscale. Prepare a
Powerpoint presentation* to be presented & discussed in a class critique.
*Digital images for Powerpoint presentations must be properly downsized for screen viewing at 72 dpi. A good target is 800 x 600 pixels. Any PP turned in with images at higher resolutions will be MARKED DOWN 1/2 grade!
