Most lodging will be at Anadolu University. This travel study course to Turkey will provide students a broad understanding of art and design by drawing on both historical and contemporary examples. Social, cultural, religious, political, ethical, theoretical and technical aspects of visual expression will be explored.
In this unique travel study course, students will visit museums, galleries, public monuments, architectural sites, design studios, art studios, musical performances, theatrical performances, and universities. Regular lectures by the instructor, as well as guest professionals as lecturers, will be presented on the topics of contemporary art, folk art, textiles, ceramics, public art, graphic design, multimedia, digital media, interior design, architecture, textile art, folk music, folk dance, archeology, cultural protocol and cuisine.
A critical aspect of study in this class will be the comparisons and contrasts of Eastern and Western culturals in an interdisciplinary, intercultural environment and how art and design, from the past to the present, contribute to the human condition in our culturally diverse society. Turkey is ideal for this study because it lies both in Europe and Asia and is truly geographically, socially, culturally and politically at the crossroads of the East and West.
